HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Posted on January 02 2018

Happy new year everyone!  How was the holiday season?  If it was anything like ours it was busy and tons of fun.  Our two little munchkins had me on the go the whole time I was with them and I loved every second of it.  As you can see Mila and Paige's Mrs. Claus hats finally got pompoms.  I was watching YouTube tutorials at 2AM on Christmas morning while cutting pompom makers out of cardboard to replace the ones I forgot in Toronto.  I came pretty close to convincing myself that the girls would never miss them but I knew that I would.  I have absolutely no regrets at all.  That being said, I'm starting this years Christmas knits right after I finish the cardigans that didn't make it under the tree.  Ash asked me about my #2018makenine and I honestly have no idea.  I just know that these kids probably take up at least four of them.  If you haven't heard of this hashtag, it's basically everyones top nine knit goals for the year.  People have chosen some pretty awesome projects but I don't know how anyone can commit this early in the game.  A plan like that is asking for deviation.

With the semester done and finally nothing to do but relax, I actually managed to churn out quite a few knit projects.  True to nature, I made another set of World's Simplest Mittens by TinCanKnits.  I told you I loved this pattern.  I did not lie.  I also had a rash of babies to knit for.  I found a new worsted pattern for baby hats called the Magic Coffee Baby Hat by Tracey Kay and loved it so much I made three of them.  For the new born hats I opted out of stripes because I love this Winter Garden colourway so much and I wanted to see more of it.  The pattern for the mitts is aptly named Baby Mitts by Susan B. Anderson and of course all three patterns are free on Ravelry.  As my fave prof says, "free is always in the budget."

Today I spent the day actually reflecting on my 2018 goals.  Per usual, there are a lot of them.  I'm trying to remember that the first goal on the list is not to commit to too many goals.  I'm trying to revert back to my slow moving ways.  It's hard to choose when there is legitimately so many fun things to do.  I registered for my intermediate French class and Digital Photography 2 and I'm super excited to get started.  I also want to focus on writing again.  While I can't fully commit to the knit projects, I was sort of toying with the idea of focusing on hats and mitts to donate at the end of the year.  It's an idea I've been thinking about for the last couple of years and sitting on the front end of this year, I think I'm going to go for it.  Since I love your company, I'm going to invite you to do it with me.  Keep an eye out here, and on Instagram and Facebook for more details in the coming weeks.

That's it for me for this week.  Until we speak again, PEACE to you and your fam! I hope 2018 showers you all with blessings!  Happy knitting! XOXO
