Bubble Mania: Knitting Joy with the Chasing Bubbles Cowl Pattern!

Bubble Mania: Knitting Joy with the Chasing Bubbles Cowl Pattern!

Hello fellow knitters!

I had the great pleasure of testing a new free pattern for Kalley from Kneedles and Life and thought I would tell you all about it in a short little blog post. This pattern was such a quick and greatly satisfying knit. I used yarn from my stash and learned a new technique. I honestly don't know why I waited so long to try bobbles; they are so cute and fun! (image above from Kneedlesandlife.com)

The Chasing Bubbles Cowl is knit using a bulky weight yarn and showcases some great bobbles created with a crochet hook. This is a fabulous free pattern and would be great for the adventurous beginner knitter. A perfect pattern for all that upcoming gift knitting this holiday season!

Here are the details:

Needles & Notions

  • US 10 (6.0mm) circulars for the ribbing, US 10.5 (6.5mm) circulars for the body, and a 24″ (61cm) cable.
  • J/10-6.00 crochet hook for the bobbles
  • Stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle

Yarn

Bulky weight yarn – I used 1.5 skeins of KnitPicks Swish Bulky, a 100% merino in the color Nutmeg Heather. Click here to find it online! Feel free to use any Bulky weight yarn that matches the gauge for this pattern. My testers used the following yarn: Malabrigo Mecha, Audine Wools Haze, Loops & Threads Charisma, Drops Andes, Alpaca Warehouse Balance Alpaca Yarn, Lion Brand Color Made Easy, Lion Brand Hue & Me, Red Heart Hygge Bulky, Cestari 3 Ply Bulky Weight, Lion Brand Scarfie.

Yards: appox. 190

Meters: approx. 175

For my version I used Red Sock Blue Sock Yarn Superwash Worsted in Seascape held double to achieve the bulky yarn gauge. The resulting fabric was soft and showcased great stitch definition all well giving great saturated colour. I found the pattern to be extremely clear and well written. The pattern provides the knitter with both written and charted instructions with a simple pattern repeat making this a great knit for holiday movie nights. If you wanted to turn this into an infinity cowl or make it longer it can easily be adapted to fit your needs.  A great pattern for a beginner knitter. I had never knit bobbles before and found Kalley's instructions and links to tutorials very helpful. I will be making more of these in my future for sure.

Check out Kalley's blog post for all details and the free pattern.

Happy making,

Ashley xo
